During this three-day workshop participants will construct an exquisite small treasure. Learning an array of bookwork techniques, we will create a durable structure with references to book history. The process is low-tech and can be achieved with very few tools. Working with papyrus and various papers, we will create a multi-layered cover surface that will be later painted and sanded. Our books will be bound with an Ethiopian-style binding along with Coptic end bands. Windows, closures and the possibility of mica pages will also be explored.

Students should bring:
- small cutting mat,
- 1/4" - 3/8" flex cut palm chisel
- thin or light-weight collage materials: decorative and text papers, antique photos - paper or tintypes, old letters, sheet music, photo copies, insect wings, leaves, feathers, etc.
- favorite tools

Dan will provide basic binding tools for each student during the workshop

A $50 kit fee is payable to Dan the first day of class.
