Join me at the beach during my favorite month of the year as we make a 4-inch by 6-inch book with stamped soldered covers bearing a cabochon of your choosing. The leather spine participants craft will be riveted to the book’s covers, and the pages inside will be ecodyed - a process of extracting color from leaves onto paper by simmering the two together. The book will be bound using a long stitch — a simple binding technique. Participants will also ecodye and stitch a wool felt bag to hold their precious books.

Students will learn:

how to pool solder onto base metal, stamp a pattern, and attach metal findings

how to add and pull back patina onto metal

the immersion method of ecodye

long-stitch bookbinding technique

how to use nail-head rivets

Tools and supplies you’ll need to bring:

small cutting mat

scissors

pencil

ultra fine Sharpie pen

paper awl

bone folder

Japanese screw punch with 1.5 mm bit

1/16” eyelet setting tool

chasing or riveting hammer

bench block

Kits will include all materials necessary to make the book.

The workshop will be held in my Topsail Beach, NC, home studio, just steps away from our glorious, pristine beach.

I am taking just eight participants, so you’ll have plenty or room and attention.

Accommodations and lunch are not included, but a list of nearby motels and restaurants will provided after registration.

Cancellation Policy

You will receive a 50% refund if you cancel before October 15, 2022. After that date, there will be no refunds; however, you can transfer your seat to a qualified participant, and if we have a waiting list, we will refund your tuition in full when the seat is sold. If we have to cancel the workshop for any reason, all payments will be refunded.

Payment options

A deposit of $150 will hold your seat. The final payment of $175 must be made by October 1, 2022.
